Athletes for Christ Flag Football Fall 2014 Summary

Posted in

The AFC Flag Football Program just finished up another great Fall Season. With 20 great players split over two teams (u14 and u16), two full squads went to battle against TeamX opponents every Saturday in September and October.

Our u14 Team was led by Head Coach Ernie Stark and his two coordinators (Jason Marcante - Offensive Coordinator and Dave Sampsell - Defensive Coordinator). Fighting hard each game, this team scrounged out a 3-4-1 season. Playing competitively in just about every game, they were literally a handful of plays away from a 5-3 season.

Meanwhile, our u16 team, coached by Ken George, Bob Sagula, and Mark Musser; put together a fantastic season going 10-0. It was the first time in AFC Flag Football history that a team went undefeated. Several of the games were easy victories for this talented squad. However, the eighth game of the season was a dog fight against a well-disciplined TeamX Titans crew. Our AFC Team was down by 4 points with less than three minutes to go. Forcing a safety, we got the ball back down by 2. Driving down the field, the u16s connected for a five yard TD to take the lead with less than one minute to go, preserving the undefeated season!

November 1st saw the 6th Annual Parents vs. Players games. The parents of the u14 team squeezed out a 13-12 victory, while the u16 squad kept their undefeated season alive by beating their parents 19-8. We then headed inside for a wonderful award ceremony/luncheon attended by around 70 people.

We look forward to our inaugural Winter Season starting in December.
